Abstract :

The question of the “production” of the human being is at the core of Sloterdijk’s philosophical project. His way of thinking the human being on a level where “there is principally technique” first provoked a scandal (i.e.: the Sloterdijk affair at the beginning of this century); it is now inescapable for whoever wants to think the relation between human being and new technologies. In this article, we will set aside the turmoil of the Sloterdijk affair and concentrate instead on the main issues at stake in Sloterdijk’s anthropologizing reading of Heidegger, as developed in The Domestication of Being (2000a) and Rules for the Human Park (2000b) I will try to show some of the implications of Sloterdijk’s biopolitical thinking, in particular, the strong inclination toward domestication in regard to politics and the idea of resistance. Finally, I will open up the discussion to the idea of a politics of the coming to the world, which might be, in the end, Sloterdijk’s proper horizon of thought.
